Overview

Our clients represent market and government leaders across multiple business sectors and spanning five continents. From Fortune 50 to up-and-coming, from public to private, from biotechnology to aerospace – Bear Code provides experienced application development.

Because some of the work we do for our clients is inherently confidential, we strive to act in a manner reflective of that responsibility. Therefore, we take the general position of not posting our clients' names and business on our website. Our responsibility is to represent their best interests, even in how we market and promote our services. We feel this reflects our commitment to our clients and is an important consideration for prospective clients.

That said, certain clients have permitted us to promote our relationships with them as examples of the quality of Bear Code work.

New England Culinary Institute

NECI hired a web company in February 2007 to build their new site. By the end of August, and with nothing but a wireframe, they started to get nervous. The NECI web team had told the top management that they would deliver a new site Bear Code was called in, and we were told we needed to build a site in two weeks.

We had found ourselves in a similar situation a few years ago for portal requested by Boeing. We jokingly told NECI we should start a "White Horse Services" division. We then told them that we could deliver a beta version in two weeks that worked in the WC3 compliant browsers. And two weeks after we would address all cross-browser compatibility issues.

We decided the project was cursed when NECI's team leader fell down the stairs and broke her arm on the day we signed the contract. Luckily, the fact that she was on a heavy regime of drugs for the first week of our work did not stop us from making good progress. We delivered per our agreement, and launched their new site within a month of starting the project--getting great thanks in return. And after the thanks, we were also rewarded with a 2007 Silver Award in Internet development from Admissions Marketing Report See the results here: NECI Site

uZooka

uZooka is a restaurant guide but not your everyday restaurant guide. It is built on a collaborative filtering algorithm, so users are able to see, and get ideas from other users with similar taste profiles, not just broad ratings from all users in the system. So for example, if as a user you wanted to know whether a new Indian restaurant in town was good, the system recognizes rating patterns from similar people similar to yourself, and returns a rating based upon the ratings of this group of people--NOT the overall site. It is a cool concept that is getting adopted in many online situations. Netflix for example has developed a collaborative filtering algorithm. Besides using the collaborative filtering algorithm, the system has lots of cool Ajax elements.

Overseas Vote Foundation

The Federal Voting Act Publication is a ridiculous document so typical of beauracracy in action. The publication is 400 pages of mind numbing byzantine logic. It details rules and regulations that were supposed to create a standardized format and convention for, among other things, registering to vote. Unfortunately, the states got hold of the rules and each interpreted them in their own fashion, in essence acting against the purpose of the Act.

Overseas Vote Foundation is a non-profit that has a mission of helping U.S. voters who are living or based overseas to register to vote. This can be an extremely cruel and unusual process. Overseas voters comprise a huge group. Including military positioned overseas, the estimate for this group is between 5-8 million Americans. Overseas had been left high and dry during the 2006 election cycle by their development team. With support from the Pew Foundation, the JEHT foundation and Carnegie, we teamed with OVF to develop a site loaded with Ajax to make a streamlined and multiple-forked application to help OVF's core constituents both register to vote and actually fill in an absentee ballot.

The response has been tremendous. With additional support from the JEHT Foundation, we have continued to build out the functionality of the site including a state of the art reporting system, and architecture adjustments that allow us to support multiple design skins for state sponsored sites running off a single instance of the application. So for example, the following sites all have our engine under the hood (and a whole bunch more on the way):

alabama.overseasvotefoundation.org, minnesota.overseasvotefoundation.org

ohio.overseasvotefoundation.org, fawco.overseasvotefoundation.org

miltary.overseasvotefoundation.org, obama.overseasvotefoundation.org

SuperArray

SuperArray Bioscience Corporation, envisioned a new, more systematic approach to biological research in the post-genomic era. They have become the industry leader in low-density arrays. One serious problem they had was their support staff was overwhelmed trying to handle customer problems with images and data. Their array technology was being compromised by the lack of effective image analysis solutions in the market. Bear Code provided a turn-key solution (including Molecular Biology expertise) that addressed SuperArray's problems, and in fact have turned the problem-set into a source of revenue.

The result is the GE Array analysis software--the first completely web based solution for microarray image capture and data analysis. Powerful analysis features help researches visualize, analyze and publish their gene expression results. >Learn More
